Bath Natural Remedies: twenty years as a franchise. A new identity of their own.
Brand workshop, full rebrand, photography, print design, shop signage, press release, and a new WooCommerce store with Lightspeed POS integration — for an established Bath wellness business stepping out from under a national franchise for the first time.
An independent business
that still looked like a franchise.
Bath Natural Remedies has been a fixture on Northumberland Place in Bath's city centre since 2001, offering over 60 holistic therapies across five treatment rooms and stocking organic skincare, herbal remedies and natural wellness products. For more than twenty years the business operated as a Neal's Yard Remedies franchise — the shop, the branding, the visual identity all belonged to Neal's Yard.
In 2023, the owners made the decision to become fully independent. They retained their relationship with Neal's Yard as a Heritage Partner — still stocking the product range — but the franchise branding had to go. For the first time, a business with two decades of history, a loyal local customer base and a team of 28+ practitioners needed an identity of its own.
The brief went well beyond a logo. Bath Natural Remedies needed a complete brand identity that could work across a shop fascia on a Bath street, therapy room signage, printed materials, a full ecommerce website, and a press campaign announcing the relaunch — all without losing the trust and recognition the business had built over twenty years. The rebrand had to feel like an evolution, not a rupture.
On the ecommerce side, the new website needed to do something the franchise site never could: integrate directly with their in-store Lightspeed POS system, syncing products, stock levels and orders between the physical shop and the online store in real time. One catalogue, one stock count, no manual reconciliation.
Start with who you are,
then design everything else around it.
When a business has operated under someone else's brand for twenty years, the instinct is to rush to a new logo. We went the other way. Before any design work started, we ran a brand workshop to figure out what Bath Natural Remedies actually is — independent of Neal's Yard — and what it wants to be. Everything that followed came from that session.
Ran a structured half-day brand workshop with the three co-owners. We worked through brand adjective exercises to identify how they want the business to feel (warm, knowledgeable, independent, trusted), defined buyer personas for their core audiences, and mapped their competitive positioning in Bath's crowded wellness market. The workshop surfaced a critical insight: their differentiator isn't the products — it's the practitioner expertise and the depth of the therapy offering. That became the brand's centre of gravity.
Designed a complete brand identity built around a warm, botanical palette (sage green, cream, natural gold) that nods to the shop's heritage without mimicking Neal's Yard. Commissioned and art-directed photography of the shop interior, therapy rooms and product displays — original imagery for the first time. Designed leaflets, appointment cards and promotional collateral. Produced the shop fascia boards and therapy room signage — the identity's most public-facing test, on a Georgian street in central Bath.
Built a new WooCommerce website on WordPress, designed around the new brand identity. The ecommerce store integrates directly with the Lightspeed Retail POS X-Series system that runs the physical shop — products, stock levels and orders sync automatically between the shop floor and the website. No duplicate catalogues, no manual stock adjustments. Includes online therapy booking, a full therapist directory, SEO-optimised treatment pages, and a content structure designed to perform in both traditional and AI-generated search.
Wrote and distributed a press release announcing Bath Natural Remedies' transition to independence and the relaunch under the new brand. This gave the business a public moment — a reason for local press, social media and the existing customer base to pay attention to the change, rather than discovering it gradually and wondering what happened.
Workshop to shop window
— everything in one engagement.
This is the most complete single-project story in our portfolio. The engagement spans brand strategy, visual identity, photography, print, physical signage, a press campaign, and a full ecommerce website with live POS integration. Most agencies deliver one or two of those things. We delivered all of them, for one business, as one coherent project.
Half-day structured workshop with the three co-owners. Brand adjective exercises, buyer personas, competitive positioning. Identified practitioner expertise — not the product range — as the brand's true differentiator. Every design decision traced back to this session.
Logo, colour palette (sage, cream, natural gold), typography system and brand guidelines. Designed to feel botanical and warm without mimicking Neal's Yard. Built to work across print, signage and digital — tested at every scale from an appointment card to a shop fascia.
Art-directed photography of the shop interior, therapy rooms and product displays. Gave the business a library of its own imagery for the first time — replacing franchise stock photography with authentic shots of the actual space and team.
Leaflets, appointment cards, promotional materials, therapy room signage and the shop fascia at 11 Northumberland Place. The identity's most public test — on a Georgian street in Bath where the brand has to hold its own alongside established neighbours.
WooCommerce store integrated directly with Lightspeed Retail X-Series. Products, stock levels and orders sync automatically between the shop floor and the website. One catalogue, one stock count, no manual reconciliation. The only Lightspeed POS integration in our portfolio.
Wrote and distributed the press release announcing the transition to independence. Gave the rebrand a public moment — a reason for local press, social and the existing customer base to take notice, rather than discovering the change by accident.
Ongoing technical support including Lightspeed sync monitoring and troubleshooting, SEO optimisation across therapy and treatment pages, and content updates. The relationship didn't end at launch — we continue to develop the site and support the integration.
The results that matter.
From brand workshop to Northumberland Place
— the full journey.
The project spans brand strategy through to a live shop fascia. Selected views show the brand guide, the photography, the printed materials, the signage at 11 Northumberland Place, and the live website — homepage, therapy listings, online shop and therapist directory.
