The British Society for Plant Pathology (BSPP) is a charitable organisation dedicated to advancing education and research in plant pathology, supporting scientists worldwide. Founded in 1981, the Society publishes three international scientific journals, organises conferences and events, and provides funding to researchers through scholarships, fellowships and bursaries.
A public resource and
a full membership platform.
BSPP needed a modern website that could serve as both a public-facing resource and a fully functional membership platform. The site required an integrated membership system allowing scientists from around the world to join, renew and manage their membership online, with support for multiple membership tiers and payment methods including Direct Debit for UK members.
They also needed an events management system for conferences and meetings, a news and resources section, and a design that reflected the Society's scientific standing while remaining welcoming and accessible to early-career researchers and students.

We designed and built a comprehensive WordPress website with one of the most integration-rich architectures in our portfolio. The membership platform is powered by WooCommerce Memberships with GoCardless Direct Debit integration for automated recurring payments — a solution particularly well suited to a UK-based learned society with an international membership base.
The site includes event management with online registration and booking, a member directory, news publishing, and a resource library. The content management system enables the BSPP team to manage all aspects of their membership, events and content independently. We continue to provide hosting, support and ongoing development as the Society's needs evolve.
