Website design, JOIE Associate membership system with Stripe payments, and blog migration for Millennium Economics Ltd — the company behind one of Cambridge University Press's established academic journals.

Millennium Economics Ltd is the owner of the Journal of Institutional Economics (JOIE), published since 2005 by Cambridge University Press. The company manages the editing of the journal, processes article submissions, determines journal policy and strategy, and funds the annual Elinor Ostrom Prize. JOIE is a multi-disciplinary journal for research on economic institutions, with submissions growing rapidly — from 350 to a projected 700 per year.
A professional academic presence
and a membership payment system.
A professional website that reflected the journal's academic standing and Cambridge University Press association, alongside a functional JOIE Associate membership and payment system. The membership system needed to generate unique reference codes, handle annual subscriptions via Stripe, and automate what had previously been a manual administrative process.
The project also included migrating an existing blog from a separate domain into the new site.

and an identity to match the journal.
We designed a website using a considered visual identity built around Pieter Bruegel the Elder paintings, Cormorant Garamond typography and a forest green palette — an aesthetic that reflects the journal's academic character without feeling stuffy. The JOIE Associate payment system uses a robust triple-path architecture: Gravity Forms, Stripe Checkout (hosted, eliminating JS conflicts), and Stripe webhooks as the authoritative payment confirmation — with a nightly reconciliation job for belt-and-braces reliability.
The membership system generates unique reference codes, sends automated confirmation emails via Postmark, and gives the editorial team a clear dashboard of active associates. The blog was migrated from joie-blog.net and integrated into the main site. The entire platform runs on WordPress with Bricks Builder, hosted on Velocity Bolt.
